Obvious Tip

Don't go into a dealership, sit down with a salesman and say:

"What's your best price/deal/lowest/etc"

I have never  seen this work to the customers advantage in any way what so ever, ever. Only thing you are accomplishing here is annoying your sales rep. This is what I picture every time I hear those words (which is very often):

Good tip pretty obvious but doesn't come to mind right away

  3. Excellent tip. I've never understood WHY people do that. Recently I was selling my truck and I had it listed at $9,600. A guy called and without even seeing the truck other than pictures online asks "What is the lowest you will take for your truck?" My answer? $9,601. :D

  4. Thanks for the heads up, that's some typa shit I'd do.

  5. Problem with this, geek's paradise, is that I have to do something in order to sell the vehicle (or I'll never make any money). Most of the time it just involves them asking for the best price, me getting annoyed and changing the subject or just giving them the straight up sticker price and seeing what they'd like to get from there.

  6. I like to go in there with a bundle of cash, exactly list price minus five dollars, then walk up to the car, make a big show of looking at the list price, counting my money, then say "damn, five bucks short!", and walk out...

  7. I've only had to buy one other car in my lifetime, but it seems like useful knowledge. I'll keep it in mind next time I head off to the dealership. I'd hate to piss off the guy that's selling me a 20 grand+ piece of merchandise.

  8. yeah plus it takes time to reach a conclusion with the dealer. No one should ever expect it to be that easy

  11. Of course it doesn't work. You have to do a little research before buying.

    Good one, Crunky :)

  13. Carlin:

"When a businessman sits down to negotiate with another businessman, the first thing he does is assume the other guy is a complete lying prick who’s trying to fuck him out of his money. So, he does everything he can to fuck the other guy a little bit faster and a little bit harder. And he does it with a big smile on his face. That big, bullshit businessman’s smile.

And if you’re a customer, that’s when they give you the really big smile! The customer always gets that really big smile as the businessman carefully positions himself directly behind the customer, unzips his pants, and proceeds to “service” the account.

Now you know what they mean when they say, “We specialize in customer service.” Whoever first said, “Let the buyer beware” was probably bleeding from the asshole. But that’s business. That’s business, and business is okay."

  18. @ Michael.

Read my post entitled: Protip for buying a New Car.

Get the ads related to the vehicle you are interested in out of your local newspapers. Sit down with your sales rep, get to know him/her, go on a test drive then get a price from him. He will write down a price regardless of whether you want it or not.

After this point, you'll want to pull out your way-cheaper-than-the-price-he-gave-you newspaper ads. If he bocks that it isnt the vehicle you are looking at, insist that he/she adds the cost of the options onto the ad price.
